Infertility is one of the most sensitive topics patients talk to me about. There can be so many reasons for it that it will take a few pages just to list them – mechanical, endocrine, psychological, hereditary, etc. The last few decades were marked by the success of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), with about 30% of couples who turn to it becoming pregnant. And this is a blessing that doctors can now perform such procedures.

The less lucky 70% of women and their partners who want to have a child keep seeking other alternatives. In my practice I usually see those who for various reasons either didn’t try a costly procedure, or had no success in multiple attempts.

If there is a mechanical obstacle or an organic change in the woman’s reproductive system, a surgery is the most likely solution for the problem (blocked fallopian tubes, fibroids, tumor, etc.) In all other cases homeopathy has an arsenal of time tested remedies to help the miracle happen.

Some of these FDA approved remedies target hormonal imbalance, others restore vitality of the whole organism which is simply too sick to bear a child. Low seminal quality can be rapidly improved by the correctly selected remedy. There are remedies which help to overcome fears, resentment, or any other internal conflict which is often a stumbling point on their way to become pregnant.

Irregular periods, thyroid imbalance, ovarian dysfunction and cysts, chronic pelvic inflammation and vaginitis all respond well to homeopathy. It is a great ally to the conventional fertility treatments when it comes to tuning the woman’s body for its best shape to conceive and bear a child. Here are just a few examples from my practice. A 30 year old school teacher came to the homeopathic clinic with the only complain that she is not ovulating in the last few years (confirmed by tests at her physician’s office). She and her husband were ready to start a family but didn’t even know how to help the situation. This woman required two sequential remedies – one for a childhood trauma, which seemed to haunt her till recent years, one for her constitutional type. She even didn’t have time to go for another ovulation test – after 5 months she became pregnant .

A banker, age 42, came in for a consultation after two unsuccessful IVF attempts , hoping to have her body tuned up for the last third try. Her earlier problem has been having too many eggs ripen at each cycle, yet none of them of good quality. Having more than a dozen eggs she would get only 1 or 2 viable embryos.
After taking a homeopathic remedy for a few months she underwent the third IVF with drastically different results. Her body produced only 5 eggs, all of them of excellent quality, and she got 4 live embryos for implantation. This woman didn’t become pregnant that time, but there was a clinical proof of the effect of homeopathic treatment on her reproductive system. Age is usually a counteractive factor in fertility prognosis, so had it been a few years earlier I think this woman would have had much higher chances of becoming pregnant.

Another long term client of mine, a young lesbian hair stylist, asked for help to become pregnant after a few unsuccessful artificial inseminations and no health complaints. The remedy I chose for her at that time targeted mainly her fears related to socially negative view of gay parents and feeling that she won’t be able to face them. She became pregnant 4-5 months later into the treatment.

These and many other cases prove that there is so much homeopathy can do to help people become parents, and every trying to concenve couple can try it to increase their chances of conceiving and carrying to term a healthy child.
